Morning Fitness & Training Rides

Monday - Wednesday - Friday
meet: 6:30AM  wheels down:  6:45AM sharp.

We are having early morning fitness rides in the beautiful Hill Country Village neighborhood every Monday, Wednsday, and Friday morning.  Each day we'll focus on new skills and training techniques to improve your fitness and increase your cycling skills.  Don't let the sound of what we're doing scare you.  We are using a little more advanced training techniques at a easier level, to improve your riding skill & increase your overall endurance.

Monday - Big-Ring & Breathing Skills

What we have noticed is a lot of our newer riders spend too much time shifting and spinning. This inhibits increase of strength in you leg muscles. During 'Big Ring Monday', we want everyone to spend more time riding in a bigger gear up front than what they've been accustomed to. You will make pedaling easier by using an easier gear in the back.  Big gear riding forces your muscles to increase in strength.

We're not talking about riding in your big gear, the whole ride, no matter what your fitness level.  We want this ride to get you to spend more time in your bigger gears to gain the benefits of big gear riding and increase your training skills.  We also want you to focus on being less dependent on shifting & improve your overall strength.  We'll also be focusing on improving your breathing skills during your rides.

Wednesday - Interval Sprint Training

Interval training involves repeated periods of intense physical activity (the exercise interval) alternating with periods of recovery (the relaxation interval). The relaxation interval avoids significant lactic acid build up and, as a result, allows longer training time at peak performance levels.

It is important to learn & use interval sprint training skills because it causes muscles to extract more oxygen from blood flowing through the muscle capillaries, it increases capillaries in the muscles & your heart adapts to pump more blood for a specific time interval.  This will improve your overall endurance & make you a stronger rider, no matter what level you are at.

Friday - Race Pace Simulation

Basically, this is showing up & riding a portion of the ride as if you were riding in a race.  We begin with a warm-up loop.  Then we start simutaltion.  It's a simulation, it's not a real race.  But it will hone your ability to properly pace yourself during a ride.  And for those of you that are competing in Tri's or races, it will give you a chance to see where your weak spots are before you show up to race, so you can train better & increase your performance.

You will determine the distance you want to simulate as a race.  It can be as little as 2 miles or as long as 12 miles.  You will determine how fast or slow you want to go.  After you complete the distance you've chosen for the race simulation, you'll finish riding at a steady, relaxed pace.  Remember, this is to increase your overall endurance.  You don't need to keep up with the other riders, you will race against yourself.

We're very excited to bring you this weekday morning training series.  This will help riders of all levels improve their fitness and enjoy riding so much more.  Show up and see how great you can be!!

We will be meeting at the Big House, 126 S. Tower Drive, 78232. It is on Tower Drive, just off Bitters Road @ West Avenue.

We will be doing 15, 20 or 25 miles at a medium pace. We will be meeting at 6:30AM and wheels down at 6:45AM sharp.

We'll be riding the loop in Hill Country Village. Veronica will ride from 6:45am til  8:30am, so if you show up late, just park & get ready. She comes by every 15 minutes, and you can start then. Or call her when you arrive and she'll tell you how close she is 210-383-3660, option 4.
